本書分權力之變、推進改革、破家沉族三篇，展現張居正的一生浮沉，講述其仕途抉擇、周旋朝堂權爭、締結政治聯盟的經歷；詳述他推行考成法、整頓吏治、安邊固防、任用能臣治河、實施一條鞭法等改革舉措；也刻畫其奪情風波、君臣生隙，病逝後遭萬曆清算、家族蒙難的悲涼結局，完整還原一代首輔的功過與命運，探討個人侷限與時代困境的相互作用。

作者簡介

林乾，1959年生。先後於1983年、1987年、1999年獲得吉林師範大學、東北師範大學、中國人民大學歷史學學士、碩士、博士學位。現為中國政法大學法律史學研究院教授、博士生導師、人文學院教授，兼國家清史編纂委員會典志組專家、中國法律史學會理事、曾國藩研究會副會長等。主持多個國家社科基金項目，北京市等資助的多項課題；發表學術論文五十多篇。出版《中國古代的權力與法律》《治官與治民：清代律例法研究》等多部專著。
