本書著重探討元明時期道教治理的歷史與價值，並從多個角度分析了道教與國家治理、地方社會治理之間的互動關係。道教治理有其「外部治理」與「內部自治」的雙重邏輯。作者從元季明初的政教鼎革背景出發，釐清道教教義治理的因循與變革，特別是劉淵然道脈的歷史作用，凸顯了老學義理由「經國佐治」向「理身內聖」的轉變。通過歷時性的「為治」與「為教」歷史與共識態「道、理、行、用、望」五維價值為研究架構，本書試圖揭櫫外部「治理道教」與內部「道教治理」、世俗性與神聖性之間的守正出新，為尋求現代「良治」導向提供經驗啟迪。
