香港作為貫通中西的國際商業大都會，由城市面貌、文化色彩以至商業都會的風采均多姿多樣。本書由此三方面切入，勾勒這個被譽為「東方之珠」的城市掠影。

全書分三篇。上篇「城市風貌」，由香港開埠初期港島北岸的「維多利亞城」起步，說到新市鎮發展、公屋建設、市區重建，乃至都會區的規劃發展，從各區演變概述這座國際大都會的發展。中篇「文化色彩」，從風水、影視、流行樂壇、賽馬、傳媒、武俠小說等方面，介紹香港在文化領域的獨特性和成就。下篇「商業都會」，則從貿易洋行、海港碼頭、航空、股市、交通運輸、電力供應等方面，圖文並茂講述香港城市變遷。




作者簡介


暨南大學經濟學院教授、博士研究生導師，曾先後擔任暨南大學特區港澳經濟研究所所長、暨南大學經濟學院院長，並曾先後擔任廣東省政協委員、廣東省人民政府參事、廣州市人民政府決策諮詢專家、廣東經濟學會副會長等社會職務。1987年至1994年曾任香港東南經濟信息中心分析員等職，長期從事香港經濟、香港資本與財團、香港金融與地產、香港經濟史等領域的研究。
