鍾南山，廣東廣州人，生於江蘇南京、長於貴州貴陽及廣東廣州。中國醫學家、教授，中國工程院院士，專長慢性阻塞性肺病及其他呼吸道病，二○○三年起中國歷次呼吸道傳染病的防治領軍人，尤以在廣東省防治二○○三年嚴重急性呼吸道症候群（SARS）傳染病聞名，他領導的廣州呼吸疾病研究所主動接收SARS患者，並找出了類固醇療法。鍾南山自二○○四年起關注肺炎與霧霾的關連，二○一二年三月、二○一三年三月中國人大會期期間積極向媒體宣傳霧霾議題。二○二○年新型冠狀病毒傳染病爆發，八十三歲的鍾南山出任國家衛健委高級別專家組組長主理。媒體這樣評價他：八十四歲的鍾南山，有院士的專業，有戰士的勇猛，更有國士的擔當。
