作者身爲一位人生經歷曲折的學者和作家，搜集其家族相關文獻史料，並訪親問舊，把一些知情老人自已的親歷口述記錄下來，記錄從祖父到父母到其本人幾代人的家族史。其突出特點在於其旁及面比較廣，把家族史置於國家社會種種大變革的背景之下，把個人的“幸”與“不幸”與國家民族命運交織在一起講述，涉及不少嶺南近代史上叱吒風雲的名人和重大事件。

作者簡介：
郭偉川，男，1948年生。祖籍潮陽南陽，自小隨母在揭陽榕城生活，1965年畢業于揭陽真理中學。自修文學、史學、中醫學，考取中醫師資格。1980年赴港，歷任《國際潮訊》執行編輯、總編輯。1994年起任香港容齋出版社總編輯。1988年起師從國學大師饒宗頤教授問學。先後獲聘為中國歷史文獻研究會會員、香港作家協會會員等。個人著作有《南陽集》《饒學與潮學研究論集》《儒家禮治與中國學術》等。
