香港島開埠不久，西方傳教士紛至沓來，建立教會和興建教堂，傳教之餘也向民眾提供教育、醫療等服務。經歷百多年，歷史悠久的教堂已成為城中地標，教會亦與社會同步成長，見證時代變遷。
本書作者陳天權研究香港宗教文化多年，親身走訪香港各區，以基督宗教的建築物為主軸，介紹教會的傳教歷程，以現存教堂為例子闡述其建築特色，並解釋教堂的裝飾圖像和象徵符號。本書介紹的教堂多來自早期教會，兼具歷史和建築價值，當中不少已獲評級或列為法定古蹟，包括聖公會聖約翰座堂、前納匝肋修院、前伯大尼修院、前法國傳道會大樓、九龍佑寧堂等。
本書原名《神聖與禮儀空間──香港基督宗教建築》，於2018年出版，今次新版，除了全書文字重新撰寫，補充近年所得資料外，並增加三篇新的文章，圖片亦增至近500 幅，對香港的基督宗教建築有更完整介紹。






作者簡介


陳天權

曾任職新聞工作，工餘時間和轉工期間經常出外旅行，足跡遍及五大洲約一百個國家。

自從2006年修畢香港大學建築文物保護碩士課程後，關注點回歸本土，探索歷史、建築、宗教和節慶，在媒體撰寫文章，常應康樂及文化事務署和其他團體邀請主持講座，或帶導賞團遊走社區，推廣歷史建築和風俗保育。

作者現為香港大學專業進修學院及香港都會大學李嘉誠專業進修學院的兼職講師。過去十年出版了多本關於香港歷史建築的書，包括《被遺忘的歷史建築》（港島及九龍篇和新界及離島）、《時代見證：隱藏城鄉的歷史建築》、《城市地標：香港早期西式建築》和《城市拾遺：探尋港九歷史遺跡》等。
